WORCESTER: Austin P. Davitt, 73, died on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Christopher House after a long illness. He leaves three sisters, Ann M. Forsyth and her husband Patrick, Katherine J. Davitt, Theresa B. Davitt; three nephews, John, Paul and Kevin Forsyth; and an aunt, Bridget OâMalley of Westport, County Mayo, Ireland; and many cousins. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Patrick J. and Annie (Baynes) Davitt. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, Worcester Junior College and Northeastern University where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering. He completed additional courses at Worcester State College and at MIT in Cambridge. He was a member of the Alpha Lambda Omega Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa. Austin worked as an electrical engineer at Baird Atomic, Hyperion Industries, Raytheon and Sprague Electric. He was an amateur radio operator, a Worcester area Civil Defense Communications Volunteer, and a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League with an amateur radio license K1MHD. He was a member of the Institute for Electronic and Electrical Engineers and a lifetime member and former altar server at St. Bernardâs Church, now known as Our Lady of Providence Parish. He enjoyed golf, traveling and photography. He was Past President of the Christopher House Resident Council. The family would like to thank the staff of Christopher House for the care they provided Austin for over 30 years. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 A. M. on FRIDAY, AUG. 5 in ST. BERNARDâS CHURCH, 228 Lincoln Street, followed by burial in St. Johnâs Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family suggests donations in memory of Austin be made to the Christopher House Activities Fund, 10 Mary Scano Drive, Worcester, MA 01605.
