Claire R. Flynn

WORCESTER: Claire R. (Smith) Flynn, died Monday, January 17, 2005, in the Hospice Residence at Coes Pond. She leaves her husband of 66 years, Daniel J. Flynn; a daughter, Mary C. "Nancy" Regan and her husband Edward Regan of Pittsfield; a son, Daniel J. Flynn, Jr. of Rutland; a sister, Christine Bloise of Worcester; six granddaughters, Colleen Wolfe of Charlton, Eileen Ledbetter of Rushton, Va. , Deborah McCready of Milford, NH, Jennifer Regan of Mansfield, Patricia Chuplis of Rutland, Karen Flynn of Boston; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews Five brothers, James, Charles, John, Francis and George Smith; three sisters, Florence (known as Sister Elizabeth John, S. S. J. ), Gertrude Parker, Mary Claire Smith; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Jean (White) Flynn of Holden, all predeceased her. She was born and raised in Milford, daughter of the late John E. and Elizabeth R. (Kenney) Smith, and lived here since 1939. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Milford and Milford Hospital School of Nursing. Claire was the secretary-bookkeeper at St. Bernard's Church Parish for 18 years, retiring many years ago. She previously worked in geriatric care at several area nursing homes. She had also been a Cub Scout Leader and was honored by the Boy Scout Council for her volunteer work. She enjoyed spending summers in Wells, Maine. CALLING HOURS will be from 4 to 8 p. m. Thursday, Jan. 20, in RICE FUNERAL HOME, 300 Park Ave. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 a. m. on Friday, Jan. 21, in IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 353 Grove St. , followed by burial in St. John's Cemetery. The family suggests donations in memory of Claire be made to VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas St. , Worcester, MA 01608.
