Doretha (Spikes) Reed

WORCESTER: Doretha (Spikes) Reed, 80, of Country Club Blvd. , died at home on Thursday, March 3, 2011, after a long illness. Her husband of nearly 30 years, Nathaniel Reed, died February 23, 1991. She leaves 3 sons, Norman Spikes and his wife Linda of Fayetteville, NC, Kenneth Reed and his wife Katie of Worcester, Michael C. Reed and his wife Surfield of Cincinnati, OH; 5 daughters, Lucille Dawkins of St. Maryâs, GA, Diane E. McNeill and her husband William of Worcester, Joanne L. Smith and her husband Raynard of Edison, NJ, Shelia A. Reed and Jocelyn M. Reed, both of Worcester; 2 brothers, David Willis of New Britain, CT and Joe Willis and his wife Ruby of McDonough, GA; 23 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Dublin, GA, daughter of the late Beverly and Mamie Lee (Shivers) Spikes. She also lived in New York City before moving to Worcester in 1969. Doretha worked many years as a machinist at Rex Chain Belt until she retired. She was a member of Emmanuel COGIC in Springfield. She enjoyed cooking and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. A CALLING HOUR will be held from 10 to 11 a. m. on TUESDAY, MARCH 8, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. , followed by A FUNERAL SERVICE at 11 a. m. in the funeral home.
