Edmond Plante

October 30, 1936 — July 7, 2024

Edmond Henry Plante, 87, formally of Bolton. Passed away peacefully at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester surrounded by his family on Sunday July 7, 2024.

Born on October 30, 1936, in Worcester, the son of the late Edmond and Christine (Morello) Plante, brother to Kenneth Plante and sister Cynthia Hunt. He grew up in Worcester and graduated from Commerce High in 1955 where he excelled in baseball, basketball and cross country. He captained the baseball team in his junior and senior years and was well known throughout the city for his pitching abilities, attracting many pro-baseball agents at the early age of 16. Multiple no hitters and strike out tallies in the teens were common.

Ed graduated from Fitchburg State in 1959 and later graduated from Worcester State University with a master’s degree in 1962. He started his teaching career at Tantasqua Regional in 1959 and later transferred to Nashoba Regional in Bolton in 1962 where he settled and raised his family for over 50 years. Ed also taught at Ayer High and The Bromfield School in Harvard where he brought graduate students from his Industrial Arts Class into his private building career which later became E H Plante Inc. “Builder of Fine Quality Homes”. Ed, while at the Bromfield School, was one of 25 out of a total of 800 applicants nationwide, who were accepted by “The National Defense Educational Act Institute for Advance Study in Industrial Arts” and in 1967 journeyed with his family to the mid-west to attend North Dakota State University on a grant. Ed was affiliated with many professional organizations throughout his carrier and was also a charter member of the Bolton Lions Club.

Ed had a talent for designing and building residential homes with a reputation for fine quality building throughout Central Mass. He and his first wife Judy made their mark in Bolton in 1970 and built the “Salt Box Country Store”. A unique country store which had a small coffee and sandwich bar, sold small gifts, antiques and other staples. It was the best place in town to get coffee and get caught up on local news.

In 1977, Ed married his second wife Debbie and raised their two children in Bolton as well. Their second child Noelle was born with severe challenges which led to many changes in their lives. Ed and Debbie are given credit for children with disabilities to be included in quality education requiring local schools to educate those in need. This not only educated the student with needs but provided collateral education amongst all her fellow students.

Ed’s retirement years brought him extremely close to his two grandchildren Arianna and Vincent that he lived with for 10 years. He cherished them beyond belief and his face would light up whenever he spoke of them. His newest great grandchild of two months Benjamin James Wiley put tears of joy in his eyes of happiness. Ed loved his entire family even though distance sometimes made it difficult to get together. He was a man of faith and always remembered his family on birthdays and holidays. He will be missed by all. The family would like to thank all of Dad’s care providers over the past few years who have all worked so hard at trying to provide care and comfort for his needs. The family also requests that in leu of flowers please consider donating to https://donate.cerebralpalsyfoundation.org/campaign/cerebral-palsy-foundation/c216457.

He leaves behind his first wife Judith (Baldwin) Plante and their six children. Donna Fitzgerald and former husband Scott Fitzgerald, Candyce Plante, Edmond W. Plante and his partner Lori Gitto, Curtis Plante and his wife Holly, Darryel Plante and his wife Lisa, and Bradford Plante.
