WORCESTER: Edward A. Frew, 87, of 485 Grove St. , formerly of 39 Frederickson Ave. , died Tuesday in Knollwood Nursing Center, after a brief illness. His wife of almost 50 years, Frances E. (Swenson) Frew, died in 1993. He leaves a son, Brian Frew and his wife Judy of Worcester; a sister, Myrtle Harris Flagg of Worcester, formerly of Boylston; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend and longtime companion, Barbara Poland of Worcester. Another son, Geoffrey Frew and three brothers, Wayland, Clayton and Lester Frew, all predeceased him. He was born in Greenwich, MA, son of the late Edward A. and Stella (Taylor) Frew, and lived here most of his life. He graduated from South High School where he was an All-City Star Basketball Player. Ed was a machine operator at Norton Company where he worked for 33 years until retiring in 1972. He then worked for several years as a security guard at Paul Revere Life Insurance Company. He was also a well-known basketball and soccer official at high school and college games. He was a member of Adams Square Congregational Church and the Greendale Retired Men's Club. CALLING HOURS will be from 5 to 8 p. m. , Friday, April 28, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday, April 29, in ADAMS SQUARE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, 26 Burncoat St. After cremation, burial will be in Rural Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.
