WORCESTER: Edward F. âNedâ Gilbert II, 72, formerly of 11 Lake Ave. , died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at UMass Memorial Medical Center- Memorial Campus, after an extended stay at Autumn Village, 25 Oriol Drive. His beloved wife of almost 34 years, Leannah H. (Hedges) Gilbert, died April 29, 2006. Among his survivors he leaves several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was born and raised in Boston, son of the late Edward F. and Beaulah (Rogers) Gilbert, and moved to Worcester in 1959. He briefly lived in White Plains, NY and in Auburn MA, but spent most of his life in Worcester. Ned worked as a cab driver with Red Cab for 20 years, until he retired. He once served as an Auxiliary Police Officer in White Plains and was a former Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus with Council No. 450 in White Plains. He was also a former member of the Massachusetts State Employees Association and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. There are no calling hours. After cremation, A GRAVESIDE SERVICE with his ashes will be held at 10 A. M. on SATURDAY, APRIL 11, in RURAL CEMETERY, 180 Grove St. , Worcester.
