WORCESTER: Edward F. Purcell, 73, of 8 Pattison St. , died Friday, March 14, 2008, in UMass Memorial Medical Center- University Campus, after being injured in a fall at home on Thursday. He leaves a brother, Thomas C. Purcell and his wife Phyllis of North Port, FL; many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. Five brothers, Jeremiah T. Purcell, Timothy P. Purcell, Patrick B. "Bart" Purcell, John J. "Jack" Purcell, David M. Purcell and two sisters, Nora F. Purcell and Mary A. Carbone, all predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Patrick J. and Mary J. (O'Connor) Purcell, and attended Worcester Boys Trade High School. Ed was a Security Officer at the County Courthouse in Worcester, where he worked for 27 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association and a life long resident of Vernon Hill. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 12 NOON on WEDNESDAY, March 19, in ASCENSION CHURCH, 40 Vernon St. , followed by burial in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family suggests donations in Ed's memory be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central New England Chapter, 101A First Ave. , Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451.
