WORCESTER: Eileen P. (Murphy) Diggins, 55, of 12 Jewett Terrace, died Tuesday October 13, 2009 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home, after a courageous 6-year battle with cancer. Her devoted husband of 25 years, James P. Diggins, Jr. , died 16 days ago, on September 27, 2009. She leaves her son, Patrick M. Diggins of Worcester; her mother, Mary (Warren) Murphy of Worcester; 3 brothers, Stephen J. Murphy and his wife Patricia of Fiskdale, John P. âJackâ Murphy of Leicester, James K. Murphy of Louisville, KY; and many nieces and nephews including Brendan G. , Aaron S. , and Kerrilyn P. Murphy, all of Worcester. Eileen also leaves many aunts, uncles, and cousins, both here and in Ireland, including her cousin Eileen A. Flynn of Auburn. She was also very close to her husbandâs family, especially her mother-in-law Margaret of Cotuit, and her brother-in-law Patrick J. Diggins and his wife Kristen of Holden. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Patrick Murphy, and was a 1972 graduate of St. Peterâs Central Catholic High School and a 1978 graduate of Newbury College. Eileen worked in healthcare for many years. She also had been an Executive Assistant at the former Digital Equipment Corporation, and most recently worked with her brothers as a manager at their family businesses, Webster Square Package Store and Scannellâs Package Store in Millbury. She was a member of St. Johnâs Church and a former member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. She was also a member and past president of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was an active member of the board at Seven Hills Charter School. The family would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to all her caregivers, especially the staff of the Levine Cancer Center at Memorial Hospital and the Rose Monahan Hospice Home. CALLING HOURS are 5 to 8 P. M. on FRIDAY, Oct. 16, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. Members of the Ladies AOH will conduct a ritual in the funeral home at 7 p. m. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 A. M. on SATURDAY, Oct. 17, in OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS CHURCH, 1222 Main St. Burial will follow in St. Johnâs Cemetery. The family suggests donations in memory of Eileen be made to Our Lady of the Angels Maintenance Fund, 1222 Main St. , Worcester, MA 01603.
