MILLBURY/WORCESTER – Gary F. Carey, 62, formerly of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday, January 25 at UMass Memorial – Lake Avenue after taking ill at home. Born and raised in Worcester, Gary was the son of Charles E. and Elizabeth (Ryan) Carey and lived the last 17 years in Millbury with longtime companion and best friend, Karen L. Mueller. Gary graduated from Worcester Boy’s Trade High School and later attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he received both his bachelors and master’s degrees. He was a well-respected computer engineer and worked for several computer companies including Data General, Seagate and most recently, Smart Modular Technologies, Inc. He enjoyed saltwater sport fishing on the Cape and off the shores of Rhode Island. When the summer made its way to fall, Gary could be found hunting with his buddies in the woodlands of New England or cooking up a game dinner for his friends at the Southboro Rod & Gun Club. First and foremost, Gary simply enjoyed spending time at home with Karen listening to his favorite tunes or cooking for his family. Besides his beloved Karen and her son Dennis, whom he loved very much, Gary will be lovingly remembered and missed by his two brothers, Charles E. Carey, Jr. and his wife, Jean of Bellingham, and John B. Carey of North Attleboro; his sister, Jean Boonstoppel and her husband, John of Oxford; and nephews and nieces, Jake and Sean Carey, Kate and Kris Boonstoppel and Jessica Besterfield.
