WORCESTER: Glen W. Powell, 71, died early Sunday morning, May 31, 2020 at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, after a brief illness. His wife of 53 years, Anita L. (Rucker) Powell, died November 5, 2019. He leaves six children, Glen W. Powell, Jr. , Sergio E. Powell, Alexander L. Powell, Jeramy S. Powell, Marian-Anais Powell and Johnathan L. Powell; a sister, Donna Meredith; 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A brother, Gerald Mac Powell, Jr. , predeceased him. He was born in Cambridge, son of the late Gerald Mac Powell and Winifred J. (Potter) Powell and was a 1969 graduate of Brandeis University. He was a Marines Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained in battle. Glen worked as a film production specialist for the United States Department of Defense for many years until he retired in 2005. In his early years, he worked as a barber in the Boston area. He loved traveling, eating good food and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered for being an honorable man with a personality that could light-up a room. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon, MA. There no calling hours.
