WORCESTER: Joseph A. Spasaro, Sr. , 82, of 67 Greenhill Parkway, died Monday, August 8, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. His wife of 55 years, Mary A. (Flynn) Spasaro, died December 8, 2010. He leaves 4 sons, Joseph A. Spasaro, Jr. of Worcester, Dennis P. Spasaro of Worcester, Francis D. Spasaro, his wife Diane and their children Ryan and Nicole all of Southbridge, James M. Spasaro and his daughter Ashley of Worcester; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Dominic and Stephen Spasaro, and a sister, Frances Shimansky, all predeceased him. He was born and raised in South Barre, son of the late Salvatore and Maria (Zanghi) Spasaro, graduated from Barre High School, and moved to Worcester over 50 years ago. Joe was a carpenter for the City of Worcester School Department where he worked for almost 22 years, until retiring in 1993. He was a longtime member of St. Bernard's Church, now known as Our Lady of Providence Parish, a Third Degree Knight of Columbus with the Benedict Council No. 2379 in South Grafton, and a former member of the Frohsinn Club. He enjoyed using his master carpentry skills, traveling, dancing with his wife Mary, and spending time with Ryan and Nicole. The Spasaro family would like to express their most sincere appreciation to all of the St. Vincent Hospital Staff who provided Joe with such excellent care. CALLING HOURS will be from 5 to 8 P. M. on THURSDAY, AUG. 11 in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 A. M. on FRIDAY, AUG. 12 in St. BERNARDâS CHURCH, 228 Lincoln St. Burial will follow in St. Johnâs Cemetery. The family suggests donations in memory of Joe be made to the Catholic Restoration Apostolate Employee Crisis Fund, c/o St. Vincent Hospital, 123 Summer St. , Worcester, MA 01608.
