Lois Campbell Cook

January 14, 1925 — June 15, 2022

Lois Marion Campbell Cook, (nee Simpson) passed away on June 15, 2022 in Auburn, MA at the age of 97. Lois was born January 14, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY. She was raised by her parents Marion and Irion Simpson along with her younger brother, Donald in Queens, NY. Lois graduated from Andrew Jackson H. S. in Queens and attended The New York School of Interior Design some years later, earning a certificate in Interior Design. Lois educated herself through her love of travel and various cultural interests. Lois married Stephen E. Campbell, Jr. in June of 1944. They moved into their first home in Levittown, NY where they began their family. Lois and Steve bought their “dream” house and moved the family to Port Washington, NY where they raised their three children. When the children were older, Lois worked for several years in New York City as an advertising agent for a trade foods agency owned by her husband. Lois and Steve eventually relocated to Newton, then Holland, Massachusetts. Lois opened a small consignment “finery” boutique, The Frugal Woman in Sturbridge, MA She then went on to work at Old Sturbridge Village in the Museum Education Department for many years before her retirement. After she retired, she and Steve spent winters in Venice, FL and summers in Holland. Florida became their full-time home before Steve’s passing. Lois volunteered as a news reader for Audio Journal in Worcester, MA, before meeting her second husband, Webster Cook, in Venice. They married, spending seventeen years together before Web’s death, alternating between Florida and Web’s home in Glen Arbor, Michigan. Lois moved to be with her family, settling in Auburn, MA, where she has lived the past seven years at Brookdale Eddy Pond East. The family would like to thank the staff at Eddy Pond who have shown our mother much love, kindness, and respect over these past years. They have taken wonderful care of her. Lois is survived by her children; Cynthia Walsh (Robert) of Wales, MA; Stephen Campbell (Sarah) of Medford, MA; and Clayton Campbell (Melissa) of Philadelphia, PA; and her six grandchildren, Sarah Muller and Tristan Walsh; John Campbell, Kiera Campbell, and Monica Revert; Nicholas Campbell; and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and friend, June Simpson. Lois is predeceased by her parents and brother; Irion and Marion Simpson and Donald Simpson; her first husband, Stephen E. Campbell; her second husband, Webster Cook; and her best friend from high school, Helen Miserendino. Lois was one of a kind. She had a flair for design, critiquing style and giving advice whether you wanted to hear it or not. She was very social and outgoing and the life of the party. She was much loved by her family and will be missed by each one of us in our own special way. Hers was the definition of a “life well lived”. Burial will be private.
