WORCESTER: Margaret (Elloian) Merakian, 94, formerly of St. Nicholas Ave. , died peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2015 at Odd Fellows Home. Her husband of 54 years, Richard âDickâ Merakian, died April 12, 2002. She leaves a daughter, Marjorie Cohen and her husband David; a son, Richard Merakian, Jr. , all of Worcester; a granddaughter, Caroline Cohen of Leicester, a grandson, Michael Cohen and his wife, Andrea, both of Oakdale, MN and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Varsken, John and Arthur Elloian and a sister, Virginia Giragosian. She was born in Lynn, daughter of the late Garabed and Esther (Yergourian) Elloian and lived in Grafton before moving to Worcester. She was a 1939 graduate of Commerce High School and attended Quinsigamond Community College. Margaret was a graduate of the Boston Floral Design School. She was a longtime member of Greendale Peopleâs Church and enjoyed crocheting, cooking ethnic foods, reading, dress making and was an accomplished upholsterer. Margaret was co-owner of the Hilltop Flower Shop which she and her late husband Dick operated for more than 50 years. She had also worked as a volunteer at Hahnemann Hospital. During World War II, she was an employee of Norton Company. The family would like to express their most sincere thanks to the staff at Odd Fellows Home for the exceptional care they provided to Margaret. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to Seven Hills Foundation, 81 Hope Ave. , Worcester, MA 01603.
