WORCESTER – MaryEllen Devlin, 72, departed peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, MaryEllen was the beloved daughter of James V. and Hazel M. (Bachant) Devlin.
MaryEllen graduated from Doherty Memorial High School in 1969 and furthered her education at the former Salters Secretarial School, both located in Worcester. Her dedicated career spanned forty years at the Worcester office of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, where she retired as a senior clerk in 2010.
An ardent New England sports fan, MaryEllen passionately followed the NE Patriots. She found joy in kicking up her feet and watching heartwarming Hallmark movies. MaryEllen cherished birthdays, holidays, and family gatherings at Westland Street. A heartfelt thank you is extended to MaryEllen’s niece, Penny Devlin, for her unwavering love and care.
MaryEllen will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her sisters, Kathleen Devlin-Bombard and Patricia Esposito, both of Worcester, and Christina E. Marlborough of Worcester. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces. Although MaryEllen did not have children of her own, she played a nurturing role as a second mother to John Michael, Brian, Alex, Max, Elizabeth, and Taylor. In addition to her parents, MaryEllen is predeceased by her sister, Maureen A. Grudoff, and two brothers, James V. and William J. Devlin.
MaryEllen’s family will privately celebrate and honor her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105. MaryEllen's legacy of love and warmth will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Kelly Cremation & Funeral Care, 154 Lincoln St., Worcester.
