HOLDEN/WORCESTER – Mildred “Millie” O. (Hines) Comer, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, Millie was the daughter of Edward and Olive (Maccabee) Hines and enjoyed her childhood in the Tatnuck section of the city. Her beloved husband of 59 years, Francis “Nook” J. Comer died in 2012. Millie graduated from Commerce High School and worked 30 years as a secretary for the City of Worcester’s School Department, retiring in 1999. She enjoyed going for walks and particularly looked forward to spending time with her family. She was amazingly smart and outgoing. “Strangers are just friends waiting to happen,” Millie rarely met someone who didn’t soon become her friend. Millie will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her three children, Stephen E. Comer of Worcester and Francis J. Comer of Holden, and Ann Marie Comer and her husband Quan Yang Duh of San Francisco, CA; six grandchildren, Stephen E. Comer, Jr. and his wife Erica, Jacquelyn Person and her husband Barry, Danielle Hughes and her husband Jon, Sean Comer, and Katherine Duh and her husband Jason, and Emily Duh; six great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces; a brother-in-law, John Watson of York Harbor, Maine; a daughter-in-law, Maureen Comer of Worcester; her companion, William Caffone; and devoted friend, Robin Israelson. Besides her husband and parents, Millie is predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Leonard Hines, and four sisters, Leta Wagner, Anna Howes, Irene Benson, and Roberta Watson. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Millie’s family from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday, June 25, at Kelly Cremation & Funeral Care, 154 Lincoln St. , Worcester. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday, June 26, at St. John’s Church, 44 Temple St. , Worcester, followed by burial at St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elder Services of Worcester Area, Inc. , Nutrition Program, 67 Millbrook St. #117, Worcester, MA 01606. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Kelly Cremation & Funeral Care, 154 Lincoln St, Worcester, MA 01605.
