Prosper K. Awuma, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Ho in the Volta Region of Ghana, he was the eldest son of twin boys, and one of 10 children of parents, John Kofi Awuma and Ella Akosua Awuma (nee Mottey). He was a proud graduate of Clark University and Northeastern University where he received master’s degrees in Economics and Political Science. He later enjoyed a lifelong career at Mutual of Omaha as a regional sales manager until his retirement. He was among the first Ghanaians to make his home in Worcester, Massachusetts in the late 1960’s, which now has a robust and vibrant Ghanaian community. Prosper loved soccer, tennis, and swimming. He had a photographic memory and entertained friends and family with his ability to recount family lore in great detail as well as local and world history facts. He was fluent in several languages and enjoyed learning about different cultures. His family will miss his laughter and elaborate stories most of all. He leaves behind his daughter, Mercy Peacock of Worcester, MA; his son, Joshua Awuma and his daughter-in-law, Angel Awuma of Alhambra, CA; his youngest daughter, Jennifer James and son-in-law, Ted James of Dover, MA; and his eight grandchildren and three living sisters. A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p. m. on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster Street Worcester, MA.
