On December 28, 2024, Richard “Dick” Wallace passed peacefully at UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester.
Dick grew up in Connecticut, graduated college in Pennsylvania and enjoyed a long career at IBM before retiring.
A lifelong athlete, Dick was Captain of his college swim team, a Masters’ swimmer, and a dedicated member of “Fred’s Team”, spending many days swimming in the beautiful oceans of Rhode Island with his swim buddy Frank. Dick and Linda, his wife of 40 years, rode in several century rides. Dick completed a double century with son in law Patrick and an AIDS ride from Durham North Carolina to Washington, D. C. Dick and Linda enjoyed decades of travels around the United States, Europe, Canada and South and Central America, always embracing new people, foods, and experiences. As well, they spent many winters on the Florida coast where they maintained friendships with ‘snowbirds’ from all over the U.S. and Canada.
Grieving his loss are his wife Linda, children Rich, Elizabeth, Julie, Louis and Ryan, sons in law Patrick and John, daughters in law Sarah and Tonia, grandchildren Koryn, Matthew, Jacob, Emma, Caroline, Madelyn, James and Charles, great grandson Forest, and brother and brother-in-law John and John.
The family expresses their thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at UMASS Memorial Hospital. We are beyond grateful to Dr. Glenn Hanna, his associate Ronnie and a host of technicians and specialists at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Your love, devotion, care, and treatment allowed Dick to enjoy many more joyful precious years with his family.
Dick’s family will host a celebration of his life during the summer, his favorite time of year. In reflecting on his beautiful life, Dick recalled a line from one of his favorite Jimmy Buffett songs…”It’s been a lovely cruise.”
Arrangements are under the care of Kelly Cremation & Funeral Care of Worcester, MA.
