Steven “Steve” Dakin, 56, of Worcester, MA, was called home to his family in heaven in the early morning hours of July 13th after a long fight against polycystic kidney disease (PKD).
Steve leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Jeannette (Walsh) Dakin, and his four daughters: Anais Dakin and her fiancé Jacob, Brittany Tran and her fiancé Vin, Gabrielle Dakin and her fiancé Michael, and Lydia Dakin. In addition to his beloved daughters, Steve leaves his three cherished grandchildren who were the lights of his life: Akali, Mikey, and Leilani, and looked forward to the arrival of his grandson Lorenzo.
Steve also leaves his brother Ben Wales, with whom he loved spending time, his brother Dana, many nieces and nephews, his best friend Freddy, and his close family friend, “Pappy”.
Steve loved the water, music, and anything with a motor, especially hot-rods, motorcycles, and boats. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fixing things and working with his hands. He spent many years as a truck driver for Texaco and the US Postal Service with his family in tow and retired as a mechanic with Lashua Garage Door Company.
Most importantly, Steve loved those close to him deeply. Everyone who knew Steve recognized him as a loving, caring, kind, and gentle soul, and above all, a devoted and loyal family man. To his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and his closest nieces and nephews, he was everything—a provider, a protector, a shoulder to cry on, and the bear hug you always needed. Steve was the best husband, dad, Grampy, uncle, and friend anyone could ask for. His family was at the forefront of his mind down to his last moments on earth.
Steve faced his illness with courage and grace, teaching his daughters acceptance, forgiveness, and faith in the process. He was never afraid to have important conversations and always made sure everyone knew of his love. Waiting to meet him with open arms on the other side are his mother Theo Dakin, his sister Barbara Bergeron, and her two sons Mike and Mason Bergeron, sisters May Guilmette and Meg Brewer, and his brother David Wales.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 26th, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Kelly Cremation and Funeral Care, 154 Lincoln Street, Worcester, followed by a celebration of his life at Century Sportsman’s Club, 531 Rochdale Street, Auburn, MA.
Flowers are welcome, and memorial contributions may be sent to a fund in memory of Steve, care of Ben Wales.
