WORCESTER: Teresa J. Ryan, 84, of 67 South Main St. in Millbury, formerly of Worcester, died peacefully on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Vincent Hospital, after a brief illness. She leaves 2 sisters, Eleanor Ryan of Bronx, NY, Bernadine Petty and her husband Francis of Worcester; 3 nieces, Sandra Standring and her husband Billy of Auburn, Jean M. Boonstoppel and her husband John of Oxford, Mary Meersman and her husband Scott of Charlton; 5 nephews, Charles E. Carey, Jr. and his wife Jean of Bellingham, Gary F. Carey and his companion Karen Mueller of Millbury, John B. Carey of Millbury, Joseph Petty and his wife Gayle of Worcester, Dennis Petty and his wife Mary Lou, also of Worcester; and many great nieces and great nephews. A brother, Daniel Ryan, and 3 sisters, Jean Ryan, Elizabeth F. âBettyâ Carey, and Marian Adamski, all predeceased her. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Patrick F. and Mary E. (Desmond) Ryan. She lived many years in Rochester, NY and then in Venice, FL before moving to Millbury in 2005. Teresa worked as a missionary nun with the Medical Missionaries of Mary. She was the first Catholic nun to earn a pilotâs license. She served in Kenya ferrying medical supplies, doctors and patients into and out of the African bush. She had also been a school bus driver in the Rochester area for many years. CALLING HOURS will be from 5 to 8 P. M. on SUNDAY, AUGUST 1, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 A. M. on MONDAY, AUGUST 2, in ST. BRIGID CHURCH, 59 Main St. in Millbury. Burial will follow in St. Johnâs Cemetery.
