Walter J. "Mike" Donovan

WORCESTER: Walter J. "Mike" Donovan, 83, of 10 Wrentham Rd. , died Sunday, Dec. 11, in UMass Memorial Healthcare -Memorial Campus, after a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Marguerite A. (Shea) Donovan; three sons, Mark C. Donovan and his longtime companion Darla Proulx of Lunenburg, Mass; Gregory J. Donovan and his wife Monica of Woodland Park, Colorado, Christopher F. Donovan of Fairhaven, Mass; a granddaughter, Katherine R. Donovan of Lunenburg; several nieces and nephews. He was born in Cambridge, Mass. , son of the late Frederick L. and Josephine (Flaherty) Donovan. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant serving with the 8th Air Force P-51 Mustang Fighter Group. He lived in Baltimore, Md. before moving here in 1967. Mike worked as an investigator for the Social Security Administration in Worcester for many years until he retired. He was also known as an Irish Tenor performing at weddings, and many funerals at Our Lady of Fatima Church. He had also been a member of Christ the King Church and the U. S. 8th Air Force, 339th Fighter Group Association. CALLING HOURS will be from 6 to 8 p. m. on Thursday, Dec. 15 and from 8:30 to 9:30 a. m. on Friday, Dec. 16, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 a. m. on Friday, Dec. 16, in OUR LADY OF FATIMA CHURCH, 43 Belmont St. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Bourne, Mass. at the convenience of the family.
